Aluminium decorative trims
Extruded aluminium is the default specification for most architectural and commercial tile work. The combination of dimensional stability, finish flexibility (anodised, brushed, mirror, powder-coated) and price-to-durability ratio is hard to beat. In Dutch-language specifications the broader family is Decoratieve profielen; in German tender documents the visible-decorative subcategory is searched as Fliesen Dekoprofil. PVC decorative trims
PVC profiles deliver decorative finishes — wood-grain, marble, solid colour — at a significantly lower price point than aluminium or stainless. They are best specified for residential interior, hospitality and back-of-house commercial work where the trim won't see heavy mechanical wear or UV exposure. PVC is not suitable for outdoor, wet-area-with-cleaning-chemicals, or food-grade installations.
Stainless steel decorative trims
For premium specification, marine environments, food-grade installations and luxury hospitality, stainless steel grades AISI 304 and AISI 316 deliver corrosion resistance, structural rigidity and a finish that ages well over decades. The price premium over aluminium is roughly 2.5×–3×, but the lifecycle cost per project-year tends to be lower in the right application.
How to choose
Three questions answer most specification decisions. Will the profile see UV exposure? Will it see chemical cleaners stronger than mild detergent? Is the budget per linear metre below or above €4? UV says aluminium or stainless. Chemicals say stainless. Sub-€4 says PVC or budget aluminium. Above €4 in any wet or premium environment says stainless.
